Private ADHD Titration

There is currently a national shortage of medication to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing issues and a growing global demand.

Our service provides private ADHD adjustment instead of waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessment fees cover the cost of a single prescription.

Titration

A thorough evaluation of your ADHD symptoms will be carried out by a highly experienced consultant psychiatrist. This includes a thorough medical history and an assessment using the common ADHD questionnaires and rating scales.

After your evaluation, you will be advised whether medication may be beneficial for your situation. This will be discussed at your follow-up appointment (which could be in person, via video link or via phone). Your clinician will explain the various options for medication and, if you choose to start on medication we will recommend titrating the dose to optimise the balance of benefits and side effects for you.

This process may take a few weeks and requires gradually altering your child's dosage until the appropriate balance is reached. It is not uncommon to have to titrate up to three different medications before you find the one that is most suitable for your child's ADHD. Parents must take part in this process of titration and keep an eye on their child's behaviour, so that they can let the doctor know if the medicine is helping or causing adverse effects.

If you decide to return to NHS treatment you will be issued an individual prescription for your medication. You will be required to pay at the pharmacy. This is not included in the consultation fee. You will need to keep up with your appointments every six months to monitor your medications. This includes the measurement of pulse and blood pressure. Annual checks are also required.

Follow-up appointments

After the assessment is complete and you are satisfied, you can schedule follow-up appointments with the psychiatrist. The appointment is usually done via zoom video call. However, in certain cases, it may be possible for an audio-only appointment to be conducted (again with an additional cost).

We will then discuss the options for treatment and then decide on the most appropriate, customized ADHD medication titration. This will include a review and discussion of your medication dose and any adverse effects you may be experiencing. The cost for these titration sessions is PS150 for face-to face sessions and PS60 for online or telephone video consultations. The pharmacy will be charged for any cost of medication.

The psychiatrist will ask you questions about your family history, the impact of your ADHD symptoms on your life and any relationship problems or mental health issues you might be experiencing. ADHD can be a hereditary condition, which is why it's crucial to assess your family history in order to determine if you are at a higher risk of developing this disorder.
