Buying a Pram Newborn

Prams and pushchairs are the multi-functional, multi-purpose companions of caregivers and parents. They're the co-pilots of the new journey of your child.

A pram newborn is a must for newborns and babies. It has a deep, sturdy carrycot that has soft and secure walls.

A pram comes with a bassinet. However, it can be converted to a twin stroller when the baby is ready.

Safety

Newborns should be protected as much as possible. A pram or stroller that has safety features will ensure that your baby is safe and comfortable during travel. A stroller or pram should include a break that is working, a 5-point harness (2 shoulder straps; 2 waist straps; and an e-crotch belt) and a wrist tether for the person driving it. Make sure the pram you select meets these requirements.

Find a lightweight stroller that allows your baby to travel in the recommended lying-flat position. This position is supportive for the baby and helps prevent an unintentionally dangerous spinal curve that can cause spinal problems. It reduces the chance of SUID (Sudden Unexpected Infant Death Syndrome) or asphyxiation by keeping airways open. Most prams can be used as early as the time of birth. They come with a seat unit which reclines into a lay-flat mode for infants. It can also be converted to a pushchair for older children.

The suspension on the pram is crucial because it can affect how smooth the ride. A pram with a lot of spring suspension will cost more, but it is worth the extra cost in the event that you plan to use your pram each for a while or more.

Always be sure to read the instruction manual thoroughly and look over the warning labels on your stroller or pram. You should also make sure that your cheap stroller is parked in a secure location away from traffic, bicycles or other hazards when it's not being used. Also, you should remove any bags or other objects from the handles as they can cause your baby to get caught or suffocate.

Even if your baby is asleep, it's never a good idea to leave a stroller or pram unattended. They may squirm into the pram and get trapped, or it could roll away and cause injury. It's not a good idea to hang bags or other items off the handles as they could fall and hit your baby in the head.

Comfort

Having the option of lie flat seating is an absolute essential for infants because it helps improve back and lung development. A lot of prams come with a cocoon or carrycot that creates a cosy nest-like atmosphere for your newborn and can be easily removed from the frame. Some seats, like the bucket-style seat on the egg2, aren't able to recline completely flat, but provide a comfortable ride for your child.

Some prams include a separate bassinet or seat for infants. This allows you to easily switch between the sleeping and sitting positions depending on the requirements of your baby. This is often referred to as a 'travel system' and is the first configuration you should try with your newborn.

Find a pram with two shoulder straps which are cushioned, and a five-point safety harness. It must fit your child's body comfortably. Be sure to check for gaps or loose places where fingers could become trapped. Also, make sure that the buckles are simple for older children to operate. It is also important to consider if you'd like a pram that is oriented towards parents. It is great for keeping an ear on your child and makes them feel more secure being able to see their parents.

Some prams come with a bassinet or carrycot, which allows your baby to be laid flat (essential for their development of their spine and breathing) while others come with seats that can recline to a lie-flat position. It is important to check the other accessories included in the pram, like a footmuff or a changing bag. These are essential to keep your baby warm when it is cold.

Some prams and strollers can be converted to travel systems. You can connect a car pod to a frame using adaptors, so you can move your child from the car to the pushchair without disturbing them. These are useful for those who have a hectic lifestyle or don't have a sufficient space for a pram capsule, although it is worth bearing in mind that your baby will need to be old enough and able to sit on their own before you can change them from car capsule to pram.

Another feature to look out for is the possibility of raising and lowering your newborn's seat from a low setting to a high setting, which helps maintain eye contact with them and keeps them close to you, something that our parent tester found really useful with her 10-month-old boy! Make sure that your pram newborn has a sturdy base with wheels that can handle potholes and bumps. Also, make sure you are able to fold it up easily and ensure that the safety harness is in good working order, fits comfortably and securely (five-point rather than three-point) and is adjustable as your child grows. You should be able to store bags for shopping and changing underneath the pram (but keep in mind that too much weight can cause it to tip over).
